BEUMER stretch hood® for the building materials industry
Packaging machine reduces packaging materials by 30 - 40 per cent
Beckum/Munich, 23 April 2007. Innovative packaging for optimal shipment and reliable product securing is in demand particularly in the building materials industry. In addition to protection against dirt, water, and damage during transport, high stability and optimised utilisation of storage space are important criteria for efficient product packaging technology. BEUMER Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co., located in Beckum has developed for various building materials such as tiles, bricks and dry mortar, the stretch hood®, a high-capacity packaging machine. BEUMER is one of the leading providers of innovative packaging machines worldwide and stands for first-class quality combined with a pronounced customer orientation.
In the case of formerly used stretch hoods methods, the hoods were heated before application. In such a process, the risk of fire could never be completely disregarded. In particular, the unavoidable dust that arises in production facilities and the partly inflammable product itself present an increased risk of fire, a fact that is reflected in accordingly high insurance premiums.
Innovative film handling and sophisticated modules combined with state-of-the-art control techniques, make the BEUMER stretch hood® an efficient packaging machine, which can adapt to wide range of customer requirements.
As a result of the innovative technology of the BEUMER stretch hood® method, the removal of the heat aspect in product packaging reduces the risk of fire to zero.
Thanks to this innovation from BEUMER, an improved price-performance ratio can be assured with the best possible product protection and manageability. This is mainly due to the low packaging material consumption, which is reduced up to 30 - 40% as well as the low energy consumption.
In addition, the optimised technology increases the packaging capacity up to 150 packages per hour depending on the package height.
Despite the radical reduction in packaging, the goods are optimally protected. Valuable goods are better protected against soiling, moisture, dust and damage during transport. The high vertical stretch and the fixing of the film to the pallet, the so-called “understretch”, assure the permanent stability of the load and the safe transport from the manufacturer to the final customer. As an extra load securing measure for shipping, a film sleeve can be stretched around the stacks for an additional securing of separate areas of the unit load.
The perfectly smooth and non-perforated surface with an optimal welding seam, allows a clear view of the product. This creates an excellent display feature at the point of sale. The clear film also allows potential damage to be recognized immediately. The film used is optimally calibrated to each product for the requested coefficient of linear tension and the biaxial stretch. The possibilities range from a thin films which are resistent to penetration for an excellent display effect to a strong films with high contracting forces.
Depending on the particular product situation and application, the BEUMER stretch hood® is versatile in use. Strengthened edges offer extra protection for goods with sharp edges.
